• Does you conduct orchestras as well as choirs?
~ Yes! Much of my work involves working with instrumental ensembles as well as choirs. I’ve been lucky to have the opportunity to conduct Beethoven, Mahler and Vaughan Williams with large-scale symphony orchestras, alongside a regular diet of baroque oratorio, and some larger-scale choral symphonic works such as Vaughan Williams' A Sea Symphony, Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms, and Lili Boulanger's Vielle Priere Bouddhique. Click here to see some recorded performances.
• What repertoire do you specialise in?
~ I cut my teeth on Baroque choral-orchestral repertoire like Bach, Handel and Haydn. I still love returning to these musical jewels and frequently work with baroque instrumental ensembles with period instruments to bring them to life. I work with a lot of contemporary choral repertoire, e.g. Alec Roth, Christopher Tin, Elaine Hagenberg, Cecilia McDowall and Jonathan Dove. I am also a strong believer in commissioning new works and have worked most recently with British composer Lillie Harris to commission a piece in Anglo-Saxon for choir and solo saxophone which was premiered by the Covent Garden Chorus and Saxophonist Christian Forshaw.
